A day at a theme park is supposed to be filled with laughter, thrilling rides, and tons of terrible fried food. But lately, it seems more and more attractions are malfunctioning, leading to tragedies both in the U.S. and abroad.

The latest story comes from Kishkinta amusement park in Chennai, India. Twenty employees were kept in the park after hours to test out a new ride, the Disco Dancer. What started out as a fun tilt-a-whirl-style ride quickly turned disastrous when it fell from nearly 15 feet in the air.

One employee perished during the ride.

While it’s hard for many parents to say no when their kids beg to go to the park for an afternoon of fun, stories and tragedies like this make the decision just a little bit easier. If you’d like to read up on the safety of your local parks and how you can educate your kids on safe riding, go here.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the employee who was killed and the others who were injured.

Across the world, something horrible is happening. It’s an issue on which few news sources report. And we rarely seek these stories out, especially in the midst of our Presidential election. The fact of the matter is that we haven’t really been focusing on more pressing matters across the world. Fortunately for us, UNICEF has. They released this video that depicts the disturbing, but very real circumstances that affect young women across the globe.

Child marriages are commonplace in many countries, and they almost never end well. More often than not, they lead to physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. Fifteen million girls are subjected to this horror every year, which means that about 41,000 girls are forced into marriages each and every day. This issue might seem distant, but UNICEF’s PSA will make it hit home.

We can’t ignore problems like this any longer. These may not be our children, but they deserve our help. Head to UNICEF’s website to find out how you can get involved.
